DETROIT — Jamie Benn scored at 32 seconds of overtime on the 52nd shot by the Dallas Stars in a 2-1 victory against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday.

Benn finished off a 2-on-1 break after a Red Wings turnover, keeping the puck and shooting over Jonathan Bernier‘s shoulder.

Bernier made an NHL career-high 50 saves, matching Cam Talbot and Jordan Binnington for the most by an NHL goaltender this season. Bernier made 49 saves in a 4-3 shootout win for Detroit against the Carolina Hurricanes on Nov. 10, 2018.

Dallas (20-15-12) won for the fifth time in six games. Anton Khudobin made 16 saves.

Detroit (17-25-8) lost for the third time in the four-game series.

The Stars outshot the Red Wings 16-2 in the first 16 minutes of the first period, but Dennis Cholowski gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead at 16:17 with a wrist shot. It was Cholowski’s 10th NHL goal and his first since an overtime winner against the Anaheim Ducks on Nov. 11, 2019.

Bernier made 21 saves in the period.

The Stars failed to score on their first four power-play attempts, and Jamie Oleksiak hit the post late in the second period.

Dallas had a 36-3 shot advantage before the Red Wings took their first shot of the second period at 11:55, and it was 41-6 at the end of the second period.

Roope Hintz hit the post with the Stars shorthanded early in the third period, but Mark Pysyk tied the game 1-1 at 3:55, tapping a loose puck into the net on Dallas’ 44th shot.
