Jamie Oleksiak scored the tiebreaking goal with 40 seconds remaining to help the Dallas Stars defeat the Calgary Flames 5-4 in Game 2 of the Western Conference First Round at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Tuesday.
The Stars had a 4-2 lead with less than eight minutes remaining. Sam Bennett scored a power-play goal with 2:49 remaining to tie the game at 4-4 after Tobias Rieder‘s shorthanded goal on a breakaway got the Flames within 4-3 with 7:36 left.
Miro Heiskanen had two goals, Corey Perry scored, and Ben Bishop made 22 saves for Dallas, the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference.
Game 3 of the best-of-7 Stanley Cup Playoff series is in Edmonton, the West hub city, on Friday (10:30 p.m. ET; NBSCN, CBC, SN, TVAS, FS-SW).
Dillon Dube and Derek Forbort scored, and Cam Talbot made 31 saves for Calgary, the No. 6 seed in the West.
Dube scored 19 seconds into the game to give the Flames a 1-0 lead.
Alexander Radulov tied it 1-1 at 2:42 of the first, and Heiskanen made it 2-1 with a shot under Talbot’s arm on a partial breakaway at 11:14.
Heiskanen’s second goal of the game gave the Stars a 3-1 lead at 4:50 of the second period. He has a three-game point streak (two goals, two assists), and leads Dallas with seven points (two goals, five assists) in the postseason.
Forbort scored to make it 3-2 at 13:00 of the second period.
Perry made it 4-2 on a rebound on the power play at 15:05 of the second.
Andrew Mangiapane scored at 4:51 of the third period for Calgary, but video review showed that he kicked the puck into the net, and the call on the ice was overturned.
Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk left the game at 4:51 of the third period when he was involved in a collision with Oleksiak and Stars forward Jamie Benn.
