SUNRISE, Fla. — Alex Wennberg scored at 1:25 of overtime to give the Florida Panthers a 3-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings at BB&T Center on Thursday.
Frank Vatrano scored the tying goal and had an assist for the Panthers (24-9-4), who have won four in a row. Chris Driedger made 25 saves.
Adam Erne and Anthony Mantha scored for the Red Wings (12-21-5). Thomas Greiss made 33 saves.
Florida swept the two-game series here and won six of the eight games against Detroit this season. This was the only game that went past regulation.
Mantha gave Detroit a 2-1 lead at 6:07 of the third period when he came in alone on Driedger and beat him with a high shot to the stick side.
Vatrano tied it 2-2 at 10:39 with a power-play goal when he one-timed Carter Verhaeghe‘s pass to the right circle.
Erne gave Detroit a 1-0 lead at 4:21 of the first period with a tip in the high slot of a pass-shot from the point by Troy Stecher.
Noel Acciari tied it 1-1 at 11:55 after Verhaeghe deked Greiss past the goal line before passing the puck back to the front of the net.
