Nesterov signs one-year, $700,000 contract with Flames


Nikita Nesterov signed a one-year, $700,000 contract with the Calgary Flames on Friday.

The 27-year-old defenseman last played in the NHL in 2016-17 for the Montreal Canadiens. 

The native of Chelyabinsk, Russia, played the past three seasons for CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League. He scored 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 53 games last season.

Nesterov scored 33 points (nine goals, 24 assists) in 132 NHL regular-season games and seven points (one goal, six assists) in 28 Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Canadiens.

He was selected by the Lightning in the fifth round (No. 148) of the 2011 NHL Draft.
