MacDonald to have Player Safety hearing for actions in Avalanche game

Jacob MacDonald will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Thursday.

The Colorado Avalanche defenseman is facing discipline for an illegal check to the head of Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman.

The incident occurred with 5:17 left in the first period of Colorado’s 8-3 loss at Xcel Energy Center on Wednesday. MacDonald did not receive a penalty. Hartman completed the game.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: Illegal check to the head. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.
