BUFFALO — Taylor Hall had two assists for the Buffalo Sabres in his first game against his former team, a 4-3 shootout win against the New Jersey Devils at KeyBank Center on Saturday.
Linus Ullmark made 31 saves and stopped all three shootout attempts. Eric Staal, Tobias Rieder and Victor Olofsson scored for the Sabers (4-3-2), and Jack Eichel scored the only goal in the shootout.
Janne Kuokkanen scored his first NHL goal, and Scott Wedgewood made 28 saves for the Devils (3-3-2), who have lost three straight.
Staal took a pass from Hall in the high slot to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead at 9:03 of the second period.
Ty Smith tied it 1-1 on the power play at 18:35 of the second with a point shot through traffic.
Andreas Johnsson‘s shot from the left circle put the Devils ahead 2-1 at 1:37 of third period. The Sabres tied it 41 seconds later on Rieder’s shot from the left faceoff dot at 2:18.
Olofsson scored a power-play goal from the top of the right circle to make it 3-2 at 10:56 of the third. Hall got the secondary assist.
Kuokkanen slipped the puck past Ullmark at the side of the net at 14:41 to tie it 3-3.
Hall, who spent parts of four seasons with the Devils from 2016-19, was traded to the Arizona Coyotes on Dec. 16, 2019. He signed a one-year contract with the Sabres on Oct. 11.
