Golden Knights expected to resume schedule against Kings on Friday

The Vegas Golden Knights are expected to resume practicing Wednesday and play their scheduled game against the Los Angeles Kings at T-Mobile Arena on Friday (10 p.m. ET; NHLN, SN, ATTSN-RM, KCOP-13, NHL.TV).

The NHL on Monday rescheduled four Golden Knights games. The postponed Jan. 28 game against the St. Louis Blues is now scheduled for March 22. Games at the San Jose Sharks originally scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, were rescheduled for Feb. 13 and Feb. 25.

Three Golden Knights coaches, one player and one taxi squad player are in COVID-19 protocol. Each is doing well after four days of negative tests, general manager Kelly McCrimmon said Monday.

“Our expectation is that we will continue this week as scheduled with our games against Los Angeles on the weekend,” McCrimmon said. “There’s a process that you go through to come out of protocol, which we anticipate will happen without further incident based on everyone being in a good place. Exactly the dates, we don’t have that yet.”

Vegas was without its coaching staff for a 5-4 shootout loss to the Blues on Jan. 26 due to COVID-19 protocol. The usual staff is coach Peter DeBoer; assistants Ryan Craig, Ryan McGill and Steve Spott; goaltending coach Mike Rosati; and video coach Tommy Cruz.

McCrimmon coached that game, assisted by the staff from Henderson of the American Hockey League.

“You put your trust in the hands of the medical people with our own organization, also with the National Hockey League,” McCrimmon said. “They were very diligent in removing all coaches from the game based on the potential of close contacts. So I don’t feel that the team was at risk in any way, and those decisions were made in conjunction with the advice of the medical experts, both from our own organization and the National Hockey League, as they were for the decision that was taken on Thursday.”

Vegas defenseman Alex Pietrangelo and an additional member of the Golden Knights coaching staff entered NHL COVID-19 protocol Jan. 28.
