Claude Giroux could return for the Philadelphia Flyers after being in NHL COVID-19 protocol when they host the New York Rangers on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN).
Giroux was back at practice Tuesday. The forward hasn’t played since Feb. 7 and was placed on the COVID-19 protocol list two days later.
Flyers coach Alain Vigneault said he will skate Wednesday morning and be a game-time decision.
Giroux was one of six players (forwards Travis Konecny, Scott Laughton, Oskar Lindblom and Jakub Voracek, and defenseman Justin Braun) who were in protocol and did not play when the Flyers lost to the Boston Bruins 7-3 in the Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday in Lake Tahoe. He has 11 points (one goal, 10 assists) in 13 games.
Vigneault said Brian Elliott will start for the Flyers if the goalie is fully recovered from a recent minor physical issue.
