Game 7 between Wild, Golden Knights discussed on NHL @TheRink podcast

A look ahead to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup First Round between the Vegas Golden Knights and Minnesota Wild, and the future of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers, were among many topics covered in the latest edition of the “NHL @TheRink” podcast.

Co-hosts Dan Rosen and Shawn P. Roarke were joined by columnist Nicholas J. Cotsonika to talk all things Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Cotsonika, who is covering the series in the Honda West Division between the No. 2 Golden Knights and No. 3 Wild, talked about the concern surrounding Vegas after losing Game 5 and Game 6 and struggling to score against Minnesota goalie Cam Talbot.

Rosen, Roarke and Cotsonika also broke down the Penguins, who were the No. 1 seed in the MassMutual East Division but lost in six games to the New York Islanders in the first round.

The Penguins have lost 15 of its past 20 playoff games since the 2018 Eastern Conference Second Round, so the question about their future and if this is starting to look like the end of a dominant run for Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang, was asked and discussed.

The co-hosts and Cotsonika also talked about the Oilers and what they need to do after getting swept by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round. Goaltending and depth were at the forefront of that conversation.

The future of the Florida Panthers, the Tampa Bay Lightning’s chances of repeating as Stanley Cup champions, the Colorado Avalanche as the best team in the NHL and the Toronto Maple Leafs potentially being legit Stanley Cup contenders were also discussion points during the hour-long podcast.

Wayne Gretzky’s new role as an analyst for Turner Sports starting next season was brought up at the end of the podcast, with Rosen, Roarke and Cotsonika tossing out their ideas for who should join him in the studio.
