Dobson, Islanders come back to defeat Oilers in OT


Noah Dobson scored 3:52 into overtime to give the New York Islanders a 3-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on Saturday.

Anders Lee and Anthony Beauvillier scored, and Ilya Sorokin made 17 saves for the Islanders (10-12-6), who trailed entering the third period.

Leon Draisaitl scored his NHL-leading 25th goal, and Mikko Koskinen made 26 saves for Edmonton (18-12-2), which has lost three straight games.

Beauvillier scored on a rebound at 2:23 of the third period to tie it 2-2.

Darnell Nurse made it 2-1 at 17:13 of the second scoring on a bouncing puck in the slot following a scramble in front of Sorokin.

Lee scored on the power play at 16:40 of the first period to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead. He swept a rebound in off a shot from Kieffer Bellows.

Draisaitl scored 31 seconds into the second period to tie it 1-1. His centering pass hit Matt Martin‘s skates and bounced into the net.

Islanders coach Barry Trotz was not on the bench for personal reasons (non-COVID-19 related). Assistants John Gruden and goalie coach Piero Greco were placed in COVID-19 protocol prior to the game, and assistant Lane Lambert ran the bench for the Islanders.
