BOSTON — Casey DeSmith made 30 saves to help the Pittsburgh Penguins end their 10-game road losing streak against the Boston Bruins with a 4-1 win at TD Garden on Thursday.
The Penguins (24-11-2), who have won five games in a row, were 0-8-2 since their last victory in Boston, 3-2 in overtime on Nov. 24, 2014.
Dan Vladar made 19 saves for the Bruins (18-10-5), who host the second game of the two-game set on Saturday.
Zach Aston-Reese gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead at 2:01 of the second period.
Mike Matheson scored on an end-to-end rush at 13:12 to extend the lead to 2-0.
Brad Marchand cut the lead to 2-1 at 11:14 of the third period.
Jason Zucker gave the Penguins a 3-1 lead at 13:07, and Jake Guentzel‘s empty-net goal at 17:51 made it 4-1.
Penguins forward Brandon Tanev had an assist in his return after missing six games with an upper-body injury.
Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo left in the first period with an upper-body injury.
Pittsburgh goalie Tristan Jarry did not play because of an upper-body injury.
