Dylan DeMelo agreed to terms on a four-year, $12 million contract to remain with the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday. It has an average annual value of $3 million.
The 27-year-old defenseman could have become an unrestricted free agent Oct. 9. He had 10 assists in 59 games with the Jets and Ottawa Senators this season and didn’t have a point in 10 games after he was traded to Winnipeg on Feb. 18.
DeMelo did not have a point in the best-of-5 Stanley Cup Qualifiers, which the Jets lost in four games to the Calgary Flames.
Selected by the San Jose Sharks in the sixth round (No. 179) of the 2011 NHL Draft, DeMelo has scored 64 points (seven goals, 57 assists) in 269 regular-season games with the Sharks, Senators and Jets. He has one assist in 14 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
