Brossoit makes 29 saves, Jets shut out Canucks

VANCOUVER — Laurent Brossoit made 29 saves for the Winnipeg Jets in a 2-0 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Friday.

Mark Scheifele scored a goal for a fourth straight game and extended his point streak to nine for Winnipeg (10-6-1), which has alternated wins and losses for seven games (4-3-0).

The Jets are 5-0-1 following a regulation loss and have won 10 of 11 against the Canucks dating to Dec. 22, 2016, including six straight in Vancouver.

Thatcher Demko made 29 saves for Vancouver (8-12-1), which had its point streak end at three (2-0-1) and has lost seven of 10 (2-7-1).

Scheifele put Winnipeg ahead 1-0 on a breakaway at 7:25 of the first period after the puck bounced over defenseman Alexander Elder’s stick at the Jets blue line.

Scheifele has six goals and seven assists during his point streak.

Mason Appleton scored into an empty net to make it 2-0 with 1:17 remaining.

It was Brossoit’s second NHL shutout, first since Dec. 22, 2018, with the Edmonton Oilers, also in Vancouver. The British Columbia native had not played since Feb. 2.

The Jets and Canucks are scheduled to play here again Sunday.
