Andre Burakovsky scored, and Philipp Grubauer made 28 saves for Colorado.
Burakovsky gave the Avalanche a 1-0 lead at 4:55 of the first period with a power-play goal. J.T. Compher‘s pass from the left boards slid through Nazem Kadri‘s legs to Burakovsky for a shot in the right circle.
Sundqvist tied the game 1-1 at 9:29. Jaden Schwartz took a drop pass from Thomas and fed Sundqvist driving to the net.
Kyrou made it 2-1 at 13:15 with a tap-in from in front on a give-and-go with Tyler Bozak.
Clifford scored in his Blues debut to make it 3-1 at 6:46 of the third period. After Colorado defenseman Samuel Girard lost the puck to Ivan Barbashev behind the net, Barbashev passed to Clifford for a shot from the right hash marks.
Sundqvist made it 4-1 at 14:22 when he put in his own rebound after accepting a pass from Thomas.
St. Louis forward Mike Hoffman, who signed a one-year contract Monday, wasn’t eligible to play because his work visa had yet to be approved. The Blues expect he will be available against the Avalanche on Friday.
