Binnington makes 42 saves, Blues top Golden Knights for third win in row


LAS VEGAS — Jordan Binnington made 42 saves, and the St. Louis Blues won their third straight game to start the season, 3-1 against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Wednesday.

It’s the first time the Blues have started a season with three consecutive road wins, and their first 3-0-0 start since 2017-18.

Vladimir Tarasenko scored at 9:49 of the third period to give St. Louis a 2-1 lead. Former Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo turned the puck over in the neutral zone, leading to a 3-on-0 the other way, and Tarasenko scored off a pass from Jordan Kyrou.

Robin Lehner made 35 saves, and William Karlsson scored for the Golden Knights (1-2-0).

Karlsson scored at 8:17 of the first period to give Vegas a 1-0 lead. He finished a 2-on-1 with Reilly Smith and scored on a rebound after Binnington made a save on the initial shot.

Vegas, which was outshot 7-2 in the first eight minutes, outshot St. Louis 17-16 after the first period.

Brandon Saad scored his first goal with the Blues at 3:21 of the second period to tie it 1-1. Saad, who signed a five-year, $22.5 million contract with St. Louis on July 29, scored on a rebound from a shot by David Perron.

Ivan Barbashev scored an empty-net goal at 18:48 of the third for the 3-1 final.
