Bednar to coach Avalanche in Game 6 after missing morning skate

Jared Bednar has been cleared to coach the Colorado Avalanche against the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Second Round on Thursday (9 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, SN, TVAS), after missing the morning skate at T-Mobile Arena because of an irregularity with his COVID-19 test results, a Colorado spokesperson said.

The Avalanche trail 3-2 in the best-of-7 series and face elimination.

Bednar was unavailable for comment.

Defenseman Devon Toews said other members of the coaching staff led practice Thursday morning.

“We have a pretty good routine on game days with our skates, so there’s not much coaching that needs to go on there,” Toews said. “We kind of know our routine and what we’re doing out there, so it was pretty much business as usual.”

The Avalanche have lost three games in a row but led 2-0 in the third period of Game 5 before losing 3-2 in overtime.

“We’ve been talking about things that we have to get better at for a long time, and I think last game was a pretty good game from us, so we’re just looking to build and get a win from tonight’s game,” forward Joonas Donskoi said.

Game 7, if necessary, will be in Denver on Saturday.
